Softball Recap: Northwest Continues Home Dominance on Tuesday

Northwest won the last time they faced Minford and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Mohawks put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 19-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Mohawks, who have now won 17 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Annika Carpenter made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Laikyn Puckett, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mollyann Runyon, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

Northwest kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Northwest pushed their record up to 19-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Minford, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-18.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Northwest beat the Falcons by a score of 19-4 on Wednesday.
