Baseball Game Preview: Northern Bedford County Panthers vs. McConnellsburg Spartans

The Northern Bedford County Panthers are taking a road trip to face off against the McConnellsburg Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Northern Bedford County's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so McConnellsburg's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Wednesday, Northern Bedford County didn't have quite enough to beat Claysburg-Kimmel and fell 5-4. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, McConnellsburg can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They walked away with a 6-3 victory over Southern Huntingdon County.

Kade Gress was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Reese Alexander, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of McConnellsburg's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-8 when he doesn't).

McConnellsburg's record now sits at 10-8. As for Northern Bedford County, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-7.

Northern Bedford County was able to grind out a solid win over McConnellsburg in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 10-7. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
