Basketball Recap: Wabash Falls Despite Big Games from Eli Mattern and Jarrett Mcwhirt

Wabash is still winless after their matchup against Eastbrook on Tuesday, but the team can take solace in the fact it was the closest they've come to winning. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 51-48 heartbreaker at the hands of the Eastbrook Panthers. The Apaches were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Wabash's loss came despite strong showings from Jarrett Mcwhirt and Eli Mattern. Mcwhirt went 6-for-10 to rack up 15 points and five steals, while Mattern went 6-for-15 en route to 17 points. The dominant performance gave Mcwhirt a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Baldwin, who posted six points.

Eastbrook got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jayden Younce out in front who had 13 points and six assists. Younce is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 40% in the last six games he's played. Malakai Luthy was another key player, putting up 13 points and five boards.

Wabash's defeat dropped their record down to 0-20. As for Eastbrook, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-7.

Wabash has already played their next contest (against Whitko), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Eastbrook, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 48-44 win against Mississinewa on the 21st.
