Basketball Recap: Virginia Academy Snaps Eight-Game Streak of Losses at Home

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Friendship Tech Prep Academy, Virginia Academy was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They strolled past the New Hope Academy National Tigers with points to spare, taking the game 66-50.

Virginia Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Chris Rochester out in front who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Rondel Jones Jr., who posted 13 points.

Virginia Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as New Hope Academy National only racked up four assists.

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Haki Muhammed II, who earned 20 points. The matchup was Muhammed II's 11th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Uriah Augare-Deal, who put up 11 points and eight rebounds.

Virginia Academy's victory ended an eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 9-6. As for New Hope Academy National, their loss dropped their record down to 6-7.

Virginia Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 20-0 win against Mt. Zion Prep Academy Blue on the 18th. New Hope Academy National and Riverdale Baptist will compete for holiday cheer at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. New Hope Academy National is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.2 points per game this season.
