Basketball Recap: Chandler Falls Despite Big Games from Karina Hunter and Markayla Shirley

After flying high against Shadow Ridge last Friday, Chandler came back down to earth. The matchup between the Chandler Wolves and the Hamilton Huskies didn't end well, with the Chandler Wolves falling 52-35. While losing is never fun, the Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while the Huskies are ranked 17th).

Chandler's loss on Wednesday came despite strong showings from Markayla Shirley and Karina Hunter. Shirley posted ten points, while Hunter put up seven points and four steals.

Hamilton found their leader in freshman Destinee Benway, who went 7 for 16 en route to 21 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Taylor Sipfle, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 16 rebounds.

Chandler has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-7 record this season. As for Hamilton, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-8.

Chandler will square off against Perry at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Chandler is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.4 points per game this season. As for Hamilton, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 63-62 defeat against Desert Vista on the 24th.
