Softball Recap: Hidalgo Takes a Loss

Hidalgo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 13th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 22-21 heartbreaker at the hands of the Grulla Gators. Even if the Pirates couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Pamela Cavazos stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two stolen bases. Marianna Hinojosa was another key player, going a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI.

Hidalgo's loss dropped their record down to 0-11. As for Grulla, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-8.

Coincidentally, Hidalgo and Grulla will both be playing La Feria the next time they take the field. The Pirates will host the Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Gators will host them at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
