Volleyball Recap: Jaida Cook and Emmersyn Drollinger Secure Win for Shelley

Shelley took a three-set defeat the last time they faced off against Hillcrest, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Russets narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Knights 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Russets have posted since August 23rd.

Shelley took Hillcrest into a fifth set where they got it done with a nine-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 19-25, 25-23, 18-25, 25-15, 15-6.

Leading Shelley to victory were Emmersyn Drollinger and Jaida Cook. Drollinger had 15 digs, while Cook had 16 digs, 12 kills, and three blocks. That's the most digs Cook has posted since back in October of 2024.

Loss or not, Hillcrest got some senior leadership from Ali Maddux and Natalie Petty. Maddux had 32 digs and four assists, while Petty had 22 assists and ten digs. Those 32 digs set a new season-high mark for Maddux.

Shelley is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. As for Hillcrest, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 16-4.

Shelley wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 victory against Bonneville on the 25th. As for Hillcrest, they have also already played their next contest, a 3-1 win against Blackfoot on the 25th.
