Baseball Game Preview: Kirkwood Cobras vs. Springfield Yellow Jackets

The Kirkwood Cobras will head out on the road to square off against the Springfield Yellow Jackets at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with six consecutive losses for Kirkwood and seven for Springfield.

Kirkwood fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Todd County Central on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Rebels by a score of 7-6.

Kirkwood got a good showing from Cole Johnson, who struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.

At the plate, Alex Rosenberger made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Christopher Brandwein also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Springfield came up short against East Robertson on Thursday and fell 9-4.

Kason Woodson was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. Springfield is 2-1 when Woodson posts two or more runs, but 2-10 otherwise.

Kirkwood's record now sits at 1-8. As for Springfield, their record is now 4-11.

Kirkwood suffered a grim 13-2 defeat to Springfield when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Cobras avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
