Baseball Game Preview: Grossmont Foothillers vs. Helix Highlanders

For the second straight game, Grossmont will face off against Helix. The Foothillers will venture away from home to challenge the Highlanders at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

Grossmont had taken Helix down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Thursday. The Foothillers fell just short of the Highlanders by a score of 5-4. The Foothillers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

For Helix's part, Sean Sherrod tossed a big game, pitching 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.

At the plate, Jake Johnson was excellent, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Helix's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 8-10 when he doesn't). Isaac Fierro also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Helix has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Grossmont, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-14.
