Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Clairton walked away with it. Their defense stepped up to hand the Monessen Greyhounds a 50-0 shutout on Friday. The Bears' defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a point in their last ten contests.

Clairton had a senior duo take command as Jeff Thompson threw for 175 yards and three TDs while completing 72.7% of his passes and Deon Lovelace-Pompey rushed for 114 yards and a pair of scores on only nine carries. Lovelace-Pompey also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making eight total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defending one pass. Clairton also got help from Michael Ruffin, who showed off his sure hands for 93 receiving yards.

Clairton pushed their record up to 10-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 0.0 points on average over those games. As for Monessen, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.

Looking ahead, Clairton will face off against Jeannette at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bears will need to watch out since the Jayhawks have now posted at least 31 points in their last three matchups. Monessen does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
