Basketball Game Preview: Tok Wolverines vs. Cordova Wolverines

Tok is 2-8 against Cordova since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Tok Wolverines will face off against the Cordova Wolverines. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Last Friday, Tok took a blow against Fort Yukon, falling 71-40.

Despite their loss, Tok saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Chairo Espinosa, who posted 15 points in addition to six boards and five steals, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Marvin Captain, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Tok smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in seven consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Cordova was not able to break out of their rough patch last Sunday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 56-52 heartbreaker at the hands of Soldotna.

Cordova's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Tok, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Tok came up short against Cordova when the teams last played back in March of 2024, falling 52-48. Can Tok avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
