Baseball Game Preview: Lincoln Mustangs vs. San Mateo Bearcats

Lincoln hasn't had much luck against San Mateo recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Lincoln Mustangs will square off against the San Mateo Bearcats at 3:30 p.m.

On Monday, Lincoln came up short against Woodside and fell 6-2.

Lincoln saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Everett Carvalho, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Xavier Malizia also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

San Mateo never got on the board in their matchup on Thursday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Washington last Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 14-0 margin over the Eagles. The win continues a trend for the Bearcats in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won four in a row.

Tyce Copus was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jesus Olivas, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Christian Louie, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

San Mateo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Washington only managed one hit.

Lincoln's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for San Mateo, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
