Basketball Game Preview: Southwestern Randolph Cougars vs. Providence Grove Patriots

Two dominant guards in Brayden Chapman and Will Dabbs are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Southwestern Randolph Cougars are taking a road trip to take on the Providence Grove Patriots at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

It was a proper cat-fight when Southwestern Randolph challenged Mount Pleasant on Saturday. Southwestern Randolph was beaten by Mount Pleasant 76-44.

Uwharrie Charter Academy typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Providence Grove proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 63-50. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Patriots.

Southwestern Randolph better keep an eye on Dabbs. He was instrumental in Providence Grove's win, going 11 for 19 en route to 30 points and eight boards. Dabbs is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Thomas, who posted 13 points and four steals.

Providence Grove was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matchups.

Southwestern Randolph has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.6 points per game. As for Providence Grove, the win got them back to even at 8-8.

Southwestern Randolph came up short against Providence Grove in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, falling 52-48. Can Southwestern Randolph avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
