Basketball Game Preview: Abingdon/Avon Tornadoes vs. Macomb Bombers

Having just played yesterday, the Abingdon/Avon Tornadoes will head out on the road to face off against the Macomb Bombers at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Abingdon/Avon is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They couldn't have asked for a better start to 2025 than the 75-22 blowout they got against Bushnell-Prairie City. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Tornadoes with their most commanding win of the season.

Meanwhile, Macomb came tearing into Saturday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past the Chargers with points to spare, taking the game 43-28. Given the Bombers' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while the Chargers are ranked 228th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Macomb is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.1 points per game. As for Abingdon/Avon, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-8.

Abingdon/Avon came up short against Macomb in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 37-31. Can Abingdon/Avon avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
