Basketball Recap: Aiken Sets Scoring Season-High Against Gilbert

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Aiken). They blew past the Gilbert Indians 84-59 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Fighting Green Hornets have posted since December 20, 2024.

Aiken's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Armani Jones, who went 10 of 12 en route to 23 points and five boards. Those 23 points gave Jones a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tre'Von Walker, who went 7 for 13 on his way to 16 points along with six rebounds and five assists.

Aiken smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive matches.

Gilbert's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Tyzai Smith, who posted 20 points, and Zyaeirus Hendrix, who put up 18 points.

Aiken's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-10. As for Gilbert, they dropped their record down to 2-17 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing South Aiken the next time they take the court. Aiken will host South Aiken at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while Gilbert will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
