It was a proper cat-fight when Cypress Woods duked it out with Cypress Creek on Friday. The Wildcats really took it to the Cougars for the full four quarters, racking up a 42-10 win. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 188th, while the Cougars are ranked 614th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

A big part of Cypress Woods' victory came down to the chemistry between Darien Rogers and his top target Jonathon Taylor. Rogers threw for 237 yards and four TDs on only 16 passes while Taylor picked up 168 receiving yards and a pair of scores. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 88 yards.

The win (which was Cypress Woods' third in a row) raised their record to 3-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 41.7 points this season. As for Cypress Creek, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cypress Woods will head out to challenge Waller at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Wildcats' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Cypress Creek, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Stratford at 6:30 p.m. on the 25th. The matchup will also give the Cougars their first taste of in-conference action this season.
