Softball Recap: Morse Takes a Loss

Morse had lost eight straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 2-11 to make it nine. They came up short against the Medomak Valley Panthers, falling 17-0. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Shipbuilders' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Medomak Valley, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-2. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.

For Medomak Valley's part, Sidney Nichols was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts Nichols has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Peyton Eaton, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Grace Townsend, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Morse will venture away from home to square off against Gardiner at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Shipbuilders are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Medomak Valley, they will take on Camden Hills at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Windjammers will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something the Panthers surely won't give up without a fight.
