The Morgan Trojans are taking a road trip to take on the Logan Grizzlies at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Morgan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Morgan and South Summit meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. The Trojans were the clear victors by a 24-11 margin over the Wildcats. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won five matches by eight runs or more so far this season.
Morgan got a massive performance out of Kaiya Peterson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. What's more, Peterson posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Gwen Rickard was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs.
Morgan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .656. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Logan waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Mustangs.
Cambree Cooper spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Leila Pauni was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-2. Another player making a difference was Miley Allen, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.
Morgan has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Logan, their record is now 8-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Morgan hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Logan struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Morgan was able to grind out a solid victory over Logan in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, winning 5-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
