Basketball Recap: Granada Comes Up Short

Granada suffered their biggest loss since February 7th on Friday. They were dealt a 55-24 defeat at the hands of the Stratton Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Bobcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 154th, while the Eagles are ranked 41st).

Granada's loss came despite strong showings from Emersen Hernandez and Dayzriana Quintana. Hernandez almost dropped a double-double with 11 points and nine blocks, while Quintana posted five points in addition to ten rebounds and three steals. Granada is 10-5 when Quintana posts eight or more boards, but 2-4 otherwise.

Stratton's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Clare Miltenberger, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds. Miltenberger is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 19 games she's played. Sophia Isenbart was another key player, going 6-for-14 on her way to 13 points along with five boards and four blocks.

This is the second loss in a row for Granada and nudges their season record down to 12-9. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 16-5 Springfield (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 76.7% over those games). As for Stratton, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-5.

Granada has already played their next game, a 57-20 win against Primero on the 1st. As for Stratton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 57-38 victory against Springfield on the 1st.
