Preview: Olympia Spartans vs. Roxana Shells
Two dominant backs in Nic Olson and Evan Wells are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Olympia Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Roxana Shells at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Olympia sitting on five straight victories and Roxana on 11.
Olympia had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They were the clear victor by a 40-20 margin over Greenville. Olympia might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won seven matchups by 20 points or more this season.
Zach E Keedy was on fire: he rushed for 223 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.6 yards per carry, and also threw for 46 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. E Keedy was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 67 yards.
Meanwhile, even though St. Joseph-Ogden scored an imposing 47 points on Saturday, Roxana still came out on top. Roxana slipped by St. Joseph-Ogden 48-47.
Roxana's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Wells, who rushed for 120 yards and three touchdowns. Wells is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Andruw Ellis, who rushed for 130 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries.
Roxana's defensive line stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Sean Maberry was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
Olympia pushed their record up to 9-2 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.0 points per game. As for Roxana, their win bumped their record up to 11-0.
