Softball Game Preview: Soda Springs Cardinals vs. Wendell Trojans

The Soda Springs Cardinals will face off against the Wendell Trojans at 9:30 a.m. on Friday.

Soda Springs fell victim to Declo and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 10-0 to the Hornets. The match marked the first time this season in which the Cardinals were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Wendell gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 7-3 victory over Buhl. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Trojans.

Breanna Comstock made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jace Olmos, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Brianna Egbert was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Wendell hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Buhl struck out eight times.

This is the second loss in a row for Soda Springs and nudges their season record down to 3-4. As for Wendell, their record is now 9-3.

Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Soda Springs hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .353. However, it's not like Wendell struggles in that department as they've averaged .387. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Soda Springs suffered a grim 20-4 defeat to Wendell in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can the Cardinals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
