Basketball Preview: Grapevine Mustangs vs. Richland Royals
After four games on the road, Grapevine is heading back home. They will take on the Richland Royals at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Grapevine's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matchups.
Even though Argyle scored an imposing 63 points on Friday, Grapevine still came out on top. Grapevine walked away with a 70-63 win over the Eagles. The victory was all the more spectacular given Grapevine's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 494th, while the Eagles are ranked 29th).
It was another big night for Matthew E woodcock, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron Sowell, who scored 17 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Richland's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their ninth straight loss. They were beaten by Birdville 91-49.
Grapevine's victory bumped their record up to 11-19. As for Richland, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-21.
Grapevine didn't have too much breathing room in their match against the Royals in their previous meeting back in January, but they still walked away with a 53-49 victory. Will Grapevine repeat their success, or do the Royals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
