The Breckinridge County Fighting Tigers will square off against the Daviess County Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Breckinridge County took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Edmonson County a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Fighting Tigers, who have now won three matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
Harper Lucas and Leland Board made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Lucas tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Board didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. At the plate, Lucas scored two runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Board went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Jonah Miller was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Henry, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Breckinridge County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Daviess County never got on the board in their matchup on Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Ohio County last Tuesday. They blew past the Eagles 11-0. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
The team relied heavily on Brody Brubaker, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. Lucas Ward was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Breckinridge County pushed their record up to 3-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Daviess County, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
