Recap: Peyton Panthers vs. Rocky Ford Meloneers
The Peyton Panthers put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They really took it to Rocky Ford for the full four quarters, racking up a 90-8 victory at home. Peyton has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 games by 20 points or more this season.
It was another big night for AJ Mannering, who dropped a triple-double on 38 points, ten assists, and ten steals. That makes it nine consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Peyton's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Abbie Nickell, who scored 27 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Rocky Ford struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Peyton racked up 20 assists.
Peyton's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.7 points per game. As for Rocky Ford, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-8.
Peyton will be playing in front of their home fans against Dolores Huerta Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Peyton has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Rocky Ford, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Swallows Charter Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rocky Ford comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 20 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
