Basketball Recap: Midway Comes Up Short

Midway came up into this matchup off a tough 26-point loss last Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the West Bladen Knights by a score of 51-49 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Raiders have suffered since February 19, 2024.

Despite the loss, Midway still got an impressive performance from Peyton Herring, who almost dropped a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds. Herring is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last 14 games she's played. Lindsey Royal was another key player, putting up six points along with five rebounds and five steals.

Even though they lost, Midway smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Bladen only pulled down five offensive rebounds.

Kali Allen went supernova for West Bladen, going 6 of 11 to rack up 21 points and seven boards. The dominant performance gave Allen a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Holland Davis, who posted nine points and five rebounds.

Midway dropped their record down to 7-11 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. As for West Bladen, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-13.

Midway has already played their next matchup, a 37-25 defeat against Red Springs on the 11th. As for West Bladen, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 76-16 loss against Fairmont on the 11th.
