            Softball Recap: Union City Indians vs. Union County Patriots        
        
		
        
        
            Union City had lost three straight on the road, but  on Thursday they dropped their record down to 1-4 to make it four. They fell just short of the Union County Patriots by a score of  7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest  loss the Indians have suffered  since May 11, 2024.
  Scarlett VanMeter was cooking despite her team's loss,   going 2-for-4 with one  run, one  double,  and one  RBI. That  run marked the first that  she has  scored this season. The team also got some help courtesy of  Lillian Zigler, who  went 1-for-4 with three  RBI and one  triple.
As for Union County, their  victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest  win they have posted  since May 11, 2024.
On Union County's side,  Kamora Klingman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on ten hits and racked up 11 Ks. Those 11  strikeouts set a new season-high mark for  Klingman.
 At the plate, Union County got a  massive  performance out of  Harly Pilgrim, who  went a perfect 3-for-3 with two  stolen bases and four  RBI. That's the most  stolen bases  Pilgrim has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was  Braylen Rudnick, who  went 2-for-3 with two  stolen bases, two  runs,  and one  double.
 Looking ahead, Union City will be playing in front of their home fans against Winchester Community  at 5:30  p.m.  on Friday. The Indians' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Golden Falcons have averaged an impressive 6.8  runs per game this season. As for Union County, they will square off against Franklin County at 11:00  a.m.  on Saturday.
