Softball Recap: Smithtown West Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Smithtown West can now relate to. They fell just short of the East Islip Redmen by a score of 7-6 on Saturday. Smithtown West's loss signaled the end of their eight-game winning streak.

Erin McDaid was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Jiselle Singh made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI. Avery Bonello was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Smithtown West's defeat dropped their record down to 15-8. As for East Islip, their win bumped their record up to 8-4.

As of now, neither Smithtown West nor East Islip have any future games scheduled.
