Basketball Recap: Friday's Loss Ends Desert Hot Springs' Winning Streak

It was a good run, but Desert Hot Springs unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 62-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the La Quinta Blackhawks. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Golden Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 54-35 back in November of 2024.

Several Golden Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Denny Castro, who posted 18 points along with six steals and five assists. Castro is crushing it when it comes to points: he's scored at least 16 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jaire Broach, who put up five points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Desert Hot Springs smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 13 consecutive matches.

Desert Hot Springs' loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-10. As for La Quinta, they moved to 12-10 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Desert Hot Springs Golden Eagles take on the Desert Chapel Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Desert Chapel is on a five-game streak of home wins, Desert Hot Springs a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for La Quinta, they will host Xavier Prep at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. La Quinta is facing Xavier Prep at the right time seeing as Xavier Prep is stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
