Softball Game Preview: Newbury Park Panthers vs. Nordhoff Rangers

The Newbury Park Panthers will challenge the Nordhoff Rangers at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Newbury Park is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.

Newbury Park will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Thursday, then bounced right back against Santa Paula on Monday. The Panthers put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 17-3 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Panthers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

The team relied heavily on Lily Johnson, who fired off two triples, five RBI, and three runs while going 5-for-5. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Elena Melgoza was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.

Newbury Park was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .605. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Nordhoff fell victim to Fillmore and their airtight pitching crew two weeks ago. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Flashes. The Rangers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Nordhoff's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Newbury Park, their win bumped their record up to 11-9.

Newbury Park took their victory against Nordhoff in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Rangers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
