Baseball Recap: Manistee Comes Up Short

Manistee dropped their record down to 4-7 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They came up short against the Montague Wildcats, falling 13-1. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Chippewas couldn't push the score so high this time.

Manistee saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Olson, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

As for Montague, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-5-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games.

On Montague's side, Eli Petersen was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Petersen has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kellan Francis was incredible, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryton Belinger, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Montague beat Manistee by a score of 6-0 later that day.
