Basketball Recap: Cottonwood Beats Stansbury for Their Third Straight Win

Cottonwood won the last time they faced Stansbury and things went their way on Friday too. The Cottonwood Colts walked away with a 69-62 win over the Stansbury Stallions. Given the Colts' advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while the Stallions are ranked 94th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Cottonwood's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bo Smith, who made all 8 shots he took for 21 points. The dominant performance gave Smith a new career-high in points. Andreas Katsanevas also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Stansbury's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Luke Rich, who went 6 for 9 on his way to 17 points in addition to five assists and five boards, and Will Stephens, who went 5 of 12 en route to 17 points. Tobi Johnson was another key player, putting up six points.

The win was the third in a row for Cottonwood, bringing their record for this year to 12-6. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.3 points per game. As for Stansbury, they dropped their record down to 4-13 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

Cottonwood didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 85-51 victory against Park City on the 22nd. Stansbury has also already played their next game, a 61-36 win against Tooele on the 21st.
