Football Recap: Allen Mustangs vs. Liberty Tigers
Allen was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They fell 26-16 to the Liberty Tigers. The Mustangs lost against the Tigers in their previous head to head back in October of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 57-18 score last time.
Although Allen took the loss, they still got scores from Ethan Smith and Noah Bray.
Allen didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Bodee Garrett and Kayd Bell.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Jaylen Prestridge and Jaxon Brown. Prestridge rushed for 126 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.4 yards per carry while Brown gained 61 total yards and two touchdowns. An impressive showing, but Brown really ramped things up playing D: he picked up a sack and made 11 total tackles in addition to snagging an interception.
Allen's loss dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Liberty, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Allen will face off against Gore at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Liberty, they will square off against Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Central is coming into the matchup with four straight wins at home, so Liberty will have to stop a team with plenty of momentum.
