Softball Recap: Riesel Makes It Five in a Row on the Road

Riesel extended their postseason success on Friday against Itasca. They put the hurt on the Wampus Cats with a sharp 14-2 victory. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Kyleigh Benton (UAM) made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Benton (UAM) was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Raizel Chaparro, who fired off two home runs, four runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lauren Summers (UAM), who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Riesel always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Itasca only posted an OBP of .320.

Riesel's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-4-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games. As for Itasca, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-13.

As of now, neither Riesel nor the Wampus Cats have any future games scheduled.
