Basketball Recap: Aldine Comes Up Short

Aldine extended their losing streak to seven on Friday, dropping them down to 1-14. They were dealt a 73-14 loss at the hands of the Nimitz Cougars. The Mustangs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 49-7.

As for Nimitz, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-8. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Leading Nimitz to victory were Tatiyana Cole and Alayia Hutchinson. Cole shot 69% from the field on her way to 23 points, while Hutchinson went 6-for-12 en route to 13 points along with six boards and six steals. That's the most points Cole has posted since back in January. Devaya Sumrell was another key player, putting up six points and 14 rebounds.

Aldine and Nimitz will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matchups. The next time the Mustangs see the court they'll take on Milby at 11:00 a.m. on the 30th. As for Nimitz, their break will end when they face Westfield at 12:00 p.m. on January 3, 2026.
