Baseball Game Preview: Mt. Vernon Wildcats vs. Evansville Reitz Panthers

The Mt. Vernon Wildcats will challenge the Evansville Reitz Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for Mt. Vernon and three for Evansville Reitz.

Mt. Vernon fell victim to Harrisburg and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They lost 6-0 to the Bulldogs. The game marked the first time this season in which the Wildcats were not able to get on the board.

Princeton hit Evansville Reitz with a five-run sixth inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Panthers came up short against the Tigers, falling 11-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Panthers have suffered since April 25, 2024.

Evansville Reitz saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Talan Willett, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. That stolen base was Willett's first of the season.

Evansville Reitz's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Mt. Vernon, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.

Mt. Vernon skirted past Evansville Reitz 5-4 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
