Video: Ultimate Highlights of Anthony Seigler
The Medium Schools Player of the Year blasted 11 home runs for state runner-up.
Being chosen as the best baseball player in the talent-rich state of Georgia was impressive enough, but then to be taken in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft by the New York Yankees confirmed that Anthony Seigler was the top medium schools baseball player in the nation in 2018.
Seigler, a catcher at Cartersville, was the first high school backstop taken in the MLB draft and was named the state player of the year by the Atlanta Journal Constitution and by American Family Insurance. He helped lead Cartersville to the Class 4A state championship game and he had one of the highest home run totals in the state of Georgia with 11.
Seigler is thus the choice for MaxPreps Medium Schools Player of the Year. He also heads the MaxPreps Medium Schools All-American Teams. The list includes two teams of 30 players each from schools that generally have between 1,000 and 2,000 students.
Richard Foy of New Hanover (Wilmington, N.C.) is the medium schools coach of the year after leading the Wildcats to a 28-1 record and the Class 3A state championship in North Carolina. The title was the first for New Hanover in nearly 25 years. New Hanover also finished No. 1 in the MaxPreps Medium Schools National Baseball Rankings.
