Volleyball Recap: Saturday's Loss Ends Utica Eisenhower's Winning Streak

It was a good run, but Utica Eisenhower unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-match winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Mercy Marlins by a score of 2-1. The Eagles were not able to make up for their defeat to the Marlins from their previous meeting back in September of 2024.

Gina Fedrigo paced Utica Eisenhower's offense, picking up nine kills. Fedrigo got some help from Liliana Lily Tripi and her 19 assists.

Leading Mercy to victory were Kate Berghoff and Catherine Kuchta. Berghoff had ten digs and one assist, while Kuchta had six digs. Those six digs gave Kuchta a new career-high.

Utica Eisenhower's loss dropped their record down to 18-2-1. As for Mercy, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-2 record this season.

Utica Eisenhower and Mercy should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings. The Eagles (ranked eighth) will meet Grosse Pointe South (ranked 62nd) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Mercy will square off against Central Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank advantage (9 vs. 487).
