Baseball Game Preview: Biggersville Lions vs. Wheeler Eagles

For the second straight game, Biggersville will face off against Wheeler. The Lions will head out on the road to take on the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Biggersville's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups.

Biggersville's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Wheeler as they made off with an 18-0 win. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by ten runs or more this season.

Case Hilliard made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Biggersville is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-12 otherwise. Hilliard was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

In other batting news, Jaden Clifton was incredible, going 3-for-4 with six RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Dillon Johnson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Biggersville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 10.8.

Biggersville is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-13 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Wheeler, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11.

Wheeler's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Biggersville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .352.
