Basketball Recap: Hudson Hoffman's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Boyd County over Elkhorn Valley

Boyd County lost against Elkhorn Valley back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Boyd County Spartans fell just short of the Elkhorn Valley Falcons by a score of 49-47. The Spartans' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Hudson Hoffman, who went 7 for 17 on his way to 18 points. Hoffman is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games he's played. Another player making a difference was Charlie Adams, who posted 13 points.

Elkhorn Valley's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Korbin Werner, who went 5 of 7 en route to 13 points and five boards. Kellyn Ollendick was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.

Boyd County's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Elkhorn Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season.

Boyd County will challenge Burke at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Boyd County is facing Burke at the right time seeing as Burke is stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Elkhorn Valley, they will square off against Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.1 points per game this season.
