Softball Game Preview: Clever Blue Jays vs. Reeds Spring Wolves

The Clever Blue Jays will face off against the Reeds Spring Wolves at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

The home team had come away the winner the last three times Clever and Spokane had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Blue Jays were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Owls on Wednesday. The Blue Jays haven't had any issues with the Owls recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Ava Mittag made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those hits were her first of the season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Taylor Thompson was a standout: she scored two runs while going 1-for-2. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Bailey Gaulding was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Clever hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Reeds Spring, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They walked away with an 11-7 victory over Pleasant Hope on Wednesday.

Clever's win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Reeds Spring, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
