Baseball Game Preview: Heritage Christian Eagles vs. Covenant Christian Warriors

Heritage Christian hasn't had much luck against Covenant Christian recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Eagles will head out to face off against the Warriors at 5:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

While Heritage Christian's victory against Indianapolis Scecina Memorial wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Eagles had just enough and edged out the Crusaders 5-3. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Crusaders recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Covenant Christian ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Beech Grove, sneaking past 5-3. The victory was familiar territory for the Warriors, who have now won four matches in a row.

Gabe Unger and Henry Boyce made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Unger tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Boyce pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Unger went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one triple, while Boyce went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. Those three RBI gave Unger a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Blake Cope, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two RBI. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. Colin Ferkinhoff also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Heritage Christian's record is now 10-4. As for Covenant Christian, their record now sits at 11-6.

Heritage Christian couldn't quite finish off Covenant Christian in their previous meeting back in April and fell 5-3. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
