Baseball Recap: Monte Vista Comes Up Short

Monte Vista was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Encinal Jets.

Monte Vista got a good showing from Mathew Sardelich, who pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

At the plate, Anthony Capra was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Torin Dunphy, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Monte Vista's loss dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Encinal, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season.

Monte Vista and Encinal will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next contests. The next time the Mustangs see the field they'll take on California at 4:00 p.m. on the 16th. As for Encinal, their break will end when they face Hayward at 4:00 p.m. on the 15th.
