Basketball Recap: Emery Haws' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Tri-Cities Christian over Asheville Christian Academy

Tri-Cities Christian fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Asheville Christian Academy on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Asheville Christian Academy Lions 59-53. The Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Lions earlier this season, when they won 53-49.

Tri-Cities Christian lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Emery Haws, who went 8 of 18 en route to 20 points. Another player making a difference was Ella Jaworski, who posted 13 points and eight boards.

Even though they lost, Tri-Cities Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Asheville Christian Academy only pulled down four offensive boards.

Sara Larios continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Asheville Christian Academy, going 12 for 25 on her way to 33 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Larios has been hot, having posted 15 or more points the last seven times she's played. Rebekah Bass was another key player, putting up 14 points and five boards.

This is the second loss in a row for Tri-Cities Christian and nudges their season record down to 13-10. As for Asheville Christian Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a massive bump to their 12-9 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Tri-Cities Christian has already played their next game (against Unicoi County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Asheville Christian Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Greenville H at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Asheville Christian Academy has won three straight at home, while Greenville H won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
