Houston high school basketball powerhouse Yates breaks own national record with 16th consecutive 100-point game

Yates (Houston) broke its own national record for consecutive 100-point games Tuesday, surpassing the century mark for the 16th consecutive game in a 124-67 victory over Scarborough (Houston).

The Lions jumped out to a 68-34 lead at half and topped the century mark on a third-period bucket as part of a 39-point quarter. Yates scored 17 in the final period for the 57-point victory.

Scarborough is now 4-16 and already lost to Yates 118-46 at home on Jan. 18, the ninth game of the 16-game streak.

The Lions eclipsed the mark set by their 2009-10 squad that went 34-0 en route to state and national titles. That year, Yates broke multiple national scoring records, including the mark for most points per game in a season at 116.2. Led by 2015 Pac-12 Conference Player of the Year Joseph Young, the team finished the season on a 58-game win streak dating back to the 2008-09 campaign.

Yates has been a high-scoring basketball powerhouse in the Lone Star State since head coach Greg Wise took over prior to the 2007-08 season. The Lions have played 393 games under Wise, scoring 100 or more 176 times and averaging 95.6 points per contest. They've also won four state championships during Wise's 13-year tenure (2008-09, 2009-10, 2012-13 and 2013-14).

The Houston powerhouse is the favorite to capture another Class 4A crown, currently riding a 16-game winning streak while averaging 102.7 points per contest.

Texas does not play with a shot clock.

The Lions have also made headlines for their lopsided victories, winning 18 games by 90 or more points and seven games by 100 or more points during that period.
