Wakulla has gone 9-1 against Franklin County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The War Eagles will square off against the Seahawks at 6:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Wakulla 1.5, Franklin County 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Wakulla is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Spanish Fort, who was ranked seventh in their home state at the time (Wakulla was ranked eighth). The War Eagles fell just short of the Toros by a score of 2-1 on Saturday. The War Eagles' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Charley Butler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 15 consecutive appearances.
Meanwhile, Franklin County had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. They walked away with a 6-3 victory over the Tigers. Six seems to be a good number for the Seahawks as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Franklin County also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Sarah Ham gave up three earned runs on six hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Franklin County let Shasta Butler and Micahlyn O'Neal run wild. Butler got on base in two of her four plate appearances with three runs, while O'Neal went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits O'Neal has posted since back in May of 2024.
Franklin County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive games.
Franklin County's victory bumped their record up to 16-5. As for Wakulla, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-4-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Wakulla has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Franklin County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Wakulla skirted past Franklin County 3-1 in their previous matchup back in February. The rematch might be a little tougher for the War Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
