Baseball Game Preview: Bonnabel Bruins vs. East Jefferson Warriors

The Bonnabel Bruins will take on the East Jefferson Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Bonnabel is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.

While Bonnabel's win against John Ehret wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Bonnabel sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over John Ehret on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Bruins in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won four in a row.

Garitt Downey made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Bonnabel's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-1 (and 7-9 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaden Franklin, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Bonnabel is 5-1 when Franklin posts two or more stolen bases, but 8-9 otherwise. Darryl Marine was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, East Jefferson didn't have quite enough to beat St. Martin's Episcopal on Wednesday and fell 5-4. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Saints recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

East Jefferson now has a losing record of 10-11. As for Bonnabel, their victory bumped their record up to 13-10.

Bonnabel might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from East Jefferson in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can Bonnabel avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
