West Greene hasn't had much luck against Greeneville recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Buffaloes will venture away from home to take on the Greene Devils at 5:30 a.m. West Greene is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
West Greene gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Unaka by a score of 6-3.
Morgan Brown spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alexis Cutshall, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayley Arnold, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, Greeneville entered their tilt with North Greene on Friday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They were the clear victors by a 12-4 margin over the Huskies. Considering the Greene Devils have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Brynlee Jones made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Kaley Garland was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Jamie Jackson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Greeneville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in four consecutive games.
West Greene's record is now 7-8. As for Greeneville, their record now sits at 16-13.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. West Greene hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .316. However, it's not like Greeneville struggles in that department as they've averaged .365. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
West Greene suffered a grim 19-3 defeat to Greeneville in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Buffaloes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
