Baseball Game Preview: Somers Spartans vs. Granby Memorial Bears

The Somers Spartans will take on the Granby Memorial Bears at 12:00 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.

While Somers' victory against Ellington wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Spartans skirted past the Knights 2-1.

Brodie White spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Somers' win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Czerwinski, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Meanwhile, Granby Memorial earned an 8-4 victory over Bolton on Tuesday.

Somers' win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Granby Memorial, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Somers couldn't quite finish off Granby Memorial when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
