Baseball Game Preview: Morrison Mustangs vs. Fulton Steamers

The Morrison Mustangs will head out on the road to take on the Fulton Steamers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Morrison will be strutting in after a victory while Fulton will be coming in after a loss.

While Mustangs fans will have to keep waiting for their team to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Tuesday's season opener. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Hinckley-Big Rock 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mustangs have posted since April 8, 2024.

Kaleb Schroeder made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That one hit allowed gave him a new career-low. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

Schroeder wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kamden White, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Fulton suffered their biggest defeat since April 8, 2024 on Tuesday. They lost 15-2 to Sherrard. The Steamers have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meetings.

Morrison came out on top in a nail-biter against Fulton in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 9-8. The rematch might be a little tougher for Morrison since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
