Basketball Recap: Millersport Comes Up Short

Millersport and Delaware Christian squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Millersport had to settle for second. They came up short against the Delaware Christian Eagles, falling 50-30. While losing is never fun, the Lakers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 692nd, while the Eagles are ranked 298th).

Despite the loss, Millersport saw an underclassman step up: freshman Lilly Atkinson almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds. Atkinson has been hot recently, having posted nine or more boards the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jenna Schilling, who posted six points.

Delaware Christian had a senior duo take command as Julia Pearch earned 13 points along with six rebounds and five assists and Addy Beard had 17 points and six boards. Pearch continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Huffman, who put up 11 points and seven rebounds.

Millersport's defeat dropped their record down to 9-15. As for Delaware Christian, their victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-3.

Millersport does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Delaware Christian, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 36-23 win against Wellington School on the 21st.
